Thirsty Thursday News: PA Farm Show

The PA Farm Show is back in person for 2022, and for the first time ever visitors ages 21 and older can buy beer to take home. The Craft Beer Competition was added in 2019 and this year 121 craft beers have been entered in from 24 breweries. There is 15 total classes of different beers for the competition.  Now, judging has already taken place but the results won’t be revealed until January 8th. The wine competition results will also be announced on the 8th. So see the results then take some of your favorite beer or wine home to try for yourself! Pennsylvania hard ciders will also be available for purchase.

Below is the times of the Wine and Beer Competion Awards as well as the 15 classes of beers being judged.

January 8th 

6:00 p.m. Wine Competition Awards Ceremony – MHS

6:30 p.m. Beer Competition Awards Ceremony – MHS

Beer Classes

  1. Light Lager and Ales (pilsner, helles, American lagers, kolschs, and cream ales etc.)
  2. Amber Lager (oktoberfest, vienna, etc.)
  3. Dark Lager (dunkel, schwarzbier, etc.)
  4. Wheat Beer (hefeweizen, dunkelweiss, American wheat etc.)
  5. Pale Ale (American and English Style)
  6. IPA (<7.5% abv)
  7. IPA (>7.5% abv)
  8. Specialty IPA (anything that doesn’t fall into the above categories, including Red IPA, Rye IPA, Black IPA, etc.)
  9. Stout (American/English styles)
  10. Porter (American/English styles)
  11. Belgian Style Beer (Saison, Witbier, Abbey Styles)
  12. Kettle Sour
  13. Mixed Fermentation Sour
  14. Barrel Aged Beer
  15. Fruit/Herb/Vegetable
